Salary & Pay Scale

Pay varies by post, following the 7th Central Pay Commission-aligned Punjab pay levels:

PostPay Scale/Level
Driver₹21,700–69,100 (Level 3)
Field Artist₹25,500 (Level 4)
Clerk (Legal / Accounts / IT), Translator (all departments)₹19,900 (Level 2 or Level 5, depending on department)

Pay and allowances are governed by Punjab Finance Department letters No. 7/204/2012-4FP1/66-72 (dated 15/01/2015) and No. 07/204/2015-4FP1/853793 (dated 04/10/2016), along with subsequent instructions issued from time to time. These are regular Group-C government pay scales — not a fixed trainee stipend — so standard DA and other allowances applicable to Punjab Government employees at that pay level apply on top of the basic figures shown above.

Quick Takeaway: Driver draws the highest starting scale (₹21,700–69,100), while most Clerk and Translator posts sit at a common ₹19,900 starting point.

Exam Pattern & Preparation Details

What this shows: how the written test and (where applicable) typing test are structured and scored.

There are two selection tracks depending on the post applied for:

Track A — Driver, Translator, Field Artist

ComponentNatureDetails
Part A (Punjabi, Matric level)Qualifying onlyMinimum 50% marks required to qualify; does not count toward merit
Part B (Written MCQ)Scoring1 mark per question; merit list is prepared only from Part B marks

Negative marking: 0.25 marks (¼) deducted for each wrong answer in Part B.

Track B — Clerk (Legal), Clerk (Accounts), Clerk (IT)

ComponentNatureDetails
Part A (Punjabi, Matric level)Qualifying onlyMinimum 50% marks required to qualify
Part B (Written MCQ)Scoring1 mark per question, ¼ mark negative marking per wrong answer; merit list prepared from Part B only
Punjabi & English Typing TestQualifying only30 words per minute (or the speed notified separately); conducted on computer, Punjabi typing in Unicode-compliant Raavi font

Tie-break rule (both tracks): if two or more candidates score equal marks in the merit-deciding paper — (1) the older candidate (by date of birth) ranks higher; (2) if age also ties, the candidate with the higher percentage in the required educational qualification ranks higher; (3) if still tied, higher Matric marks decide the final rank. The Board’s decision on any tie-break is final.

Preparation tips:

  • Part A (Punjabi) only needs 50% to qualify and doesn’t add to your merit score — don’t over-invest study time there once you’re confident of clearing it; focus your prep hours on Part B instead, since that’s what determines your actual rank.
  • Since every wrong answer in Part B costs you ¼ mark, avoid guessing on questions you’re genuinely unsure of.
  • If you’re applying for a Clerk post, start practising Punjabi typing in the Raavi font specifically — general Punjabi typing speed on a different keyboard layout or font may not transfer directly to the test.
  • Admit cards, exam schedule, and syllabus/pattern details are released only on the SSSB website with no individual notification sent to candidates — check the site regularly rather than waiting for an email or SMS.

Selection Process

  1. Written Test (Part A + Part B) — Part A (Punjabi) is qualifying (50% minimum); Part B is the scoring component that decides merit, with negative marking.
  2. Typing Test (Clerk posts only) — Punjabi & English, 30 wpm, qualifying in nature; a common merit list for Clerk posts is then prepared from Part B marks of only those who clear the typing test.
  3. Counselling / Document Verification — shortlisted candidates (numbers decided by the Board based on category-wise vacancy count) are called to present original certificates and their attested copies for educational qualification, technical qualification, and reservation category.
  4. Recommendation to Department — only after documents are fully verified and eligibility is proven at every stage is a candidate’s name recommended to the concerned department; qualifying the written test or being called for counselling does not by itself entitle a candidate to selection.

No TA/DA is paid to any candidate for appearing in the written exam or counselling.

How to Apply (Step-by-Step)

  1. Visit the official SSSB website: sssb.punjab.gov.in
  2. Click the “Apply Online” link for Advt. No. 12 of 2026.
  3. New candidates: click “Registration” and fill in your details — your email ID becomes your User ID, and a password is generated. Save these credentials for future use.
  4. Login using your registered User ID (email) and password.
  5. Fill in personal, educational, and other required details accurately and completely; upload a passport-size photo (or capture live via camera) and a scanned signature — applications without both are treated as incomplete and rejected.
  6. Click “Save Draft” or “Next”, then “Attach Annexure” to upload your 10th-class certificate, qualification certificates, and other mandatory documents in PDF format as specified on the portal.
  7. Click “Save Documents”, then “Make Payment” to pay the fee online.
  8. After successful payment, click “Submit” — your complete application will display on screen. Take a printout and keep it for future reference.

Note: A saved draft can be resumed anytime via Menu → View Status of Application → View Incomplete Application before final submission.

Documents checklist:

  • 10th-class (Matriculation) certificate
  • Qualification certificate(s) matching the specific post applied for
  • Valid driving licence (Driver post only)
  • Category certificate (SC/BC/EWS/ESM/PwD/Sports), where applicable — as per prevailing Punjab Government format
  • Punjab Domicile/Residence Certificate, not older than 5 years, for any candidate claiming reservation
  • Scanned photograph and signature

Common mistakes to avoid:

  • Filling category/category code carelessly — it cannot be changed at any stage after the form is submitted.
  • Getting a cyber café or another person to fill the form on your behalf — the notification explicitly advises against this, since no correction is allowed if an error occurs during form-filling.
  • Assuming a failed online payment still counts — a failed transaction means your application is not considered submitted at all, and any deducted fee is non-refundable.

Important Tips

  • Only the SSSB website carries official updates on exam date, admit card, exam centre, result, and merit list — no individual communication is sent to candidates, so check the site regularly until the entire process is complete.
  • Category and category code, once submitted, are locked permanently — double-check both before hitting submit.
  • Apply yourself rather than through a third party or cyber café, since no correction is entertained for any data-entry error afterward.

Additional Important Info

  • This is a combined advertisement covering 14 distinct post-types across 12 different Punjab Government departments — read the specific qualification and pay for your target post carefully, since requirements vary significantly by department (e.g., Clerk (Legal) requires a law degree everywhere it appears, while Clerk (IT) requirements differ department to department).
  • The Board reserves the right to increase, decrease, or completely withdraw the vacancies shown in Annexure-A at any stage of the recruitment process, based on revised demand from the concerned department — any such change applies to all candidates.
  • Ex-Servicemen (Self) candidates are considered first for ESM-reserved posts; only if none are available are ESM (Dependent) candidates considered, per Punjab’s Ex-Servicemen Welfare Department notification dated 8 May 2020.
  • Sportsperson-category merit is determined per the Punjab Sports Department’s notification dated 9 March 2026, and separate instructions issued from time to time.
  • Candidates working under Central/State Government must apply through the proper channel of their department; applications not routed accordingly are liable to rejection.
