PSSSB Clerk Eligibility Criteria 2026
The eligibility for PSSSB Clerk is actually straightforward once it is split into four checks: degree, computer qualification, Punjabi qualification and age. There is also a separate Punjabi qualifying test that candidates must clear.
| Requirement | What PSSSB requires | What the candidate should check |
|---|---|---|
| Graduation | Bachelor’s degree in any discipline from a recognized university/institution or equivalent | You must have completed the degree by the application cut-off date |
| Computer Qualification | 120-hour course with working experience in PC/IT use in Office Productivity or Desktop Publishing Applications from a Government-recognized/reputed ISO 9001-certified institution OR DOEACC ‘O’ Level-equivalent computer qualification | A normal computer certificate should not be assumed to be acceptable; it must satisfy one of these two routes |
| Punjabi Qualification | Matriculation with Punjabi as a compulsory or elective subject, or an accepted equivalent Punjabi examination | Check your Class 10 certificate before applying |
| Punjabi Qualifying Test | Matriculation-level Punjabi test with minimum 50% marks | This is mandatory; failing it removes you from final merit consideration |
| Qualification Cut-off | Minimum educational and other qualifications must normally be possessed by the last date for submitting the application | For the reopened window, that date is 7 September 2026 |
The Bachelor’s degree and the two alternative computer-qualification routes are specified in the original advertisement. The Punjabi qualification and mandatory 50% qualifying test come from the Punjab Government rules specifically cited in the notification. The notification also cites the January 2026 rule making the last application date the qualification cut-off unless the relevant rules provide otherwise.
Graduates who are exploring other government recruitment options can also browse our graduate government jobs category for other suitable vacancies.
The Important Part: Do You Qualify?
A candidate is broadly eligible only when all four conditions below are satisfied:
1. You have a Bachelor’s degree.
Any discipline is acceptable, subject to the recognition/equivalence condition in the notification.
2. You have an acceptable computer qualification.
PSSSB gives two routes. Either you have the specified 120-hour course with the required working experience, or you have a computer/IT qualification equivalent to DOEACC ‘O’ Level.
3. You studied Punjabi at Matriculation level or hold an accepted equivalent qualification.
4. You can clear the separate Punjabi qualifying test with at least 50%.
This is not part of the merit calculation. It is a qualifying condition; a candidate who fails to secure 50% cannot be considered in the final merit list, even with strong marks in the other paper.
One Common Mistake
Having Punjabi in Matriculation and passing the Punjabi qualifying test are two different requirements.
The notification requires the prescribed Punjabi educational qualification and a separate qualifying Punjabi test at the Matriculation standard with 50% marks.
What About Final-Year Students?
The notification says the required minimum educational and other qualifications must normally be possessed by the last date of application. Therefore, a candidate who has not completed the required qualification by 7 September 2026 should not treat themselves as eligible merely because the degree is expected later.
PSSSB Clerk Age Limit 2026
The age is calculated as on 1 January 2026.
| Category | Age Limit |
|---|---|
| Minimum age | 18 years |
| General category | Maximum 37 years |
| Punjab SC/BC residents | Maximum 42 years |
| State/Central Government employees | Maximum 45 years |
| Punjab Persons with Disabilities | Maximum 47 years |
| Widows, divorcees and specified married women categories | Maximum 40 years |
| Punjab Ex-Servicemen | As per Punjab Recruitment of Ex-Servicemen Rules, 1982 |
The notification specifies the above category-specific upper-age limits. For Punjab Ex-Servicemen, the applicable Rules of 1982 govern the age calculation.
Important Note for Government Employees
State and Central Government employees claiming the applicable age relaxation must produce an NOC from their department at counselling.
PSSSB Clerk Salary 2026
The Clerk post carries the following pay:
| Particular | Details |
|---|---|
| Post | Clerk |
| Pay Level | Level-2 |
| Pay | ₹19,900 |
| Allowances | As applicable under Punjab Government instructions |
The original notification states that the basic salary and other allowances are governed by Punjab Government Finance Department instructions issued from time to time.
Want to compare this pay with other government posts? Explore our latest government job notifications for current vacancies, salaries and eligibility details.
Is ₹19,900 the In-Hand Salary?
No.
₹19,900 is the specified pay/basic figure for the Clerk post. It should not be presented as the guaranteed monthly in-hand salary.
Actual salary received can vary because of the allowances and deductions applicable under Punjab Government rules.
PSSSB Clerk Selection Process 2026
The selection process consists of a written examination followed by the applicable typing test and counselling/document verification.
1. Written Examination
The written examination will be Objective Type / Multiple Choice Questions. It consists of Part A and Part B.

Detailed Exam Pattern
The notification confirms the Part A/Part B structure and marking rules, but it states that the detailed written-exam syllabus/pattern will be uploaded separately on the PSSSB website.
Therefore, the currently confirmed pattern is:

4. Common Merit List
The Common Merit List will be prepared among candidates who qualify the typing test, based on their Part-B written-exam marks.
Tie-Breaking Rules
Where candidates have equal merit marks, the notification provides the following order:
- The candidate who is older in age is placed higher.
- If age is also equal, the candidate with the higher percentage in the required educational qualification is placed higher.
- If the tie still remains, Matriculation marks are considered.
- The Board’s decision in such tie cases is final.
