JKSSB Junior Engineer Mechanical Vacancy 2026

A few points that most articles skip:
- Open Merit is 51 of 127 (about 40%, calculated). The seven reserved categories together hold 76 posts (about 60%, calculated).
- ST-1 and ST-2 each have 13 posts, and RBA also has 13.
- The notification gives no separate post count for Ex-Servicemen or PwBD candidates. Horizontal reservation applies “to the extent communicated by the Indenting Department”, so watch for a corrigendum or the final merit list.
- The Board warns that the number of posts “may undergo increase or decrease” before the selection list is issued, and that the advertisement is subject to the outcome of any court case.

How to Apply
The notification says the detailed online-application instructions and the portal link will be put on the JKSSB website separately. In earlier JKSSB drives the flow was: register on the portal, log in, select the advertisement, fill the form, upload documents, pay the fee, submit and print. Treat that as a guide only, and follow the official instructions when the window opens on 16 November 2026.
- Go to jkssb.nic.in and open the application link for Advertisement No. 10 of 2026 (available from 16.11.2026).
- Register and log in.
- Choose the post: Junior Engineer (Mechanical), Item No. 265.
- Enter your name, date of birth, father’s name and mother’s name exactly as in your Matriculation certificate.
- Upload your live photograph, signature, category certificate (if applicable) and qualification certificates, per the size limits below.
- Pay the application fee online.
- Submit and print the application form. You must bring this printout to Document Verification. Do not send hard copies to the Board office.
Only one application per item number is allowed. If you submit more than one, the latest one is considered, and appearing in the exam more than once under the same item leads to cancellation and debarment. In-service candidates must also submit the form through their Head of Department.
follow the official instructions when the window opens on 16 November 2026. If you want to see how the same portal works in a live drive, our post on JKSSB Class 4 recruitment 2026 walks through another current JKSSB application.
Documents and Upload Specifications
| Document | Specification (as stated) |
|---|---|
| Live photograph | Live photo. Blurred or illegible photos are summarily rejected |
| Signature | 10 KB to 20 KB (the notification’s size note sits next to the photograph and signature together, so treat 10–20 KB as the safe range for both) |
| Category certificate (if applicable) | PDF, max 200 KB, valid as on 15.12.2026, in the prescribed format |
| Qualification / experience certificates (self-attested) | PDF, max 200 KB |
No pixel dimensions are given, so follow the limits shown on the portal.
Documents Required at Document Verification
- Printout of the online application form, plus self-attested photocopy of each certificate
- Originals of all certificates: Matriculation (for name and date of birth), Domicile Certificate, qualification certificates, category certificate
- Two recent colour passport-size photographs (not older than 6 months, with date mentioned)
- Original valid photo ID (Aadhaar, Voter ID, Driving Licence, PAN, Passport, or school/college/employer ID)
- Ex-Servicemen: Form-XIV certificate under Rule 18 of the J&K Reservation Rules, 2005, plus an affidavit sworn before a 1st Class Judicial Magistrate
- Degree from outside J&K (non-Central University): Bonafide Certificate in the Board’s format
- Equivalence Certificate, if you claim an equivalent qualification
No TA/DA is paid for the exam or for Document Verification. Missing the DV date or failing to produce originals means you will not be considered.
Rules for Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD)
PwBD candidates can take a scribe and/or 20 minutes of compensatory time per hour, if they applied as PwBD. They must arrange their own scribe, who must be of a lower educational level and not a candidate in the same exam. They must submit Annexure-B (certificate of physical limitation to write) and Annexure-C (undertaking for own scribe) with the other documents on exam day, and reach the centre at least one hour early.
Exam-day and Conduct Rules
Carry the admit card printout, two recent photographs and an original photo ID. Mobile phones, smart watches, smart glasses, AI-enabled devices, Bluetooth devices and storage media are banned even in switched-off mode, and there is no safekeeping arrangement. Expect frisking, door-frame metal detector scanning, biometric capture, facial recognition and Aadhaar authentication. Misconduct leads to debarment from the Board’s exams.
Common Mistakes to Avoid
- Getting the Domicile or category certificate after 15 December 2026. Validity is judged strictly against the cut-off date, and no second chance to upload is given.
- Using a certificate in the wrong format. Reservation certificates not in the prescribed format are summarily rejected.
- Spelling your name or parents’ names differently from the Matriculation certificate. This can cancel candidature at Document Verification.
- Counting on a qualification you are still completing. Marks and the final certificate must be ready by the cut-off date.
- Applying with a non-Mechanical diploma or degree. Only the listed Mechanical qualifications are accepted; anything else is rejected at any stage.
- Waiting for the last week. The Board itself warns of portal overload near closing.
- Planning to edit later. Corrections after submission, and changes to preferences, are not entertained.
- Uploading a blurred photograph or signature, or oversized PDFs. Blurred photos mean summary rejection, and PDFs are capped at 200 KB.
- Ignoring negative marking. Wrong answers cost one-fourth of the marks, so blind guessing hurts.
- Assuming you will be told by post. No exam details or roll number slips go out through India Post. Check the website.
