RRC Northern Railway Apprentice Selection Process
The selection of Act Apprentices will be based on merit. There will be no written examination or viva-voce.
The merit list will be prepared by calculating the average percentage of marks obtained in:
- Class 10 (Matriculation/SSC)
- Relevant ITI examination
Both qualifications will receive equal weightage.
Candidates interested in other Railway apprentice vacancies can read about the East Coast Railway Apprentice Recruitment 2026.
Merit Calculation
The merit percentage will be calculated using the following formula:
Merit Percentage = (Class 10 Percentage + ITI Percentage) ÷ 2
For example, if a candidate scores 80% in Class 10 and 90% in ITI, the merit percentage will be:
(80 + 90) ÷ 2 = 85%
The final merit list will be prepared cluster-wise, trade-wise and community-wise in descending order of merit.
Tie-Breaking Rules
If two candidates secure the same merit percentage:
- The older candidate will be given preference.
- If their dates of birth are also the same, the candidate who passed Class 10 earlier will be preferred.
Candidates shortlisted for selection will be called for document verification and must satisfy the prescribed medical fitness requirements.
Apprenticeship Training Period and Stipend
The notification states that the period of training and stipend will be as per the applicable rules. It does not specify a single fixed stipend amount or training duration for all trades.
Selected candidates will have to enter into an apprenticeship training contract before starting training. Candidates below 18 years of age must have their guardian enter into the contract on their behalf.
Important: Apprenticeship training does not guarantee a permanent or regular job in Northern Railway. The notification clearly states that Railway Administration is not obligated to offer employment after completion of training.
