Who Can Apply – Eligibility Criteria

Each post has different rules for education, age, and experience. Read this section carefully to find where you fit.

Educational Qualifications

For Assistant Soil Chemist: You need a Master’s Degree in Agriculture or Agricultural Chemistry with specialisation in Soil Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, or Soil Science from a recognised university.

For Prosecutor: You need a Bachelor’s Degree in any subject plus a Bachelor’s Degree in Law (LLB), OR an integrated five-year LLB degree. You also need experience in handling court matters and litigation.

For Specialist Grade III Assistant Professor (All Medical Posts): You must have a recognised MBBS degree and a post-graduate degree in the concerned speciality. For example:

  • Clinical Hematology: DM or DNB in Clinical Hematology, or MD in Medicine/Paediatrics/Pathology with two years special training in Clinical Hematology.
  • Endocrinology: DM or DNB in Endocrinology, or MD in Medicine/Paediatrics with two years special training in Endocrinology.
  • Neonatology: DM or DNB in Neonatology, or MD/DNB in Paediatrics with two years special training in Neonatology.
  • Nuclear Medicine: MD or DNB in Nuclear Medicine, or related degrees like MD in Radio-Therapy/Radio-Diagnosis/Bio-Physics with specified diploma or experience.
  • Pulmonary Medicine: DM or DNB in Pulmonary Medicine, or MD in Respiratory Medicine/General Medicine/Paediatrics with two years special training.
  • Paediatric Cardiology: DM or DNB in Paediatric Cardiology, or MD in Paediatrics with two years special training in Cardiology.
  • Surgical Gastroenterology: M.Ch. or DNB in Surgical Gastroenterology, or MS in General Surgery with two years special training.

For Deputy Assistant Director (Entomology) & Entomologist: Master’s Degree in Zoology with Entomology as one of the papers, or Master’s in Public Health Entomology.

For Junior Scientific Officer (Toxicology): Master’s Degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Pharmacology, Pharmacy, or Forensic Science (with Chemistry as one of the subjects at B.Sc. level). This post is reserved exclusively for Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD).

Experience Requirements

Most posts need hands-on experience after your qualifying degree:

  • Assistant Soil Chemist: 3 years in soil and water analysis in a government or recognised organisation.
  • Prosecutor: 1-2 years in litigation and court matters or administration of law.
  • Specialist Assistant Professor: At least 3 years teaching experience as Senior Resident, Tutor, Registrar, or Assistant Professor in the concerned speciality after your first post-graduate degree. DM/M.Ch. duration counts towards this experience.
  • Deputy Assistant Director / Entomologist: 3 years in teaching, research, or control work in Medical Entomology or Vector Borne Diseases.
  • Junior Scientific Officer: 3 years in research and analytical work in Toxicology.
  • Superintendent (Legal): 2 years as Judicial Officer, Legal Department officer, Central Government legal affairs officer, or practising Advocate.

All posts come under the 7th Pay Commission matrix with central government benefits.

How to Apply for UPSC Advertisement 08/2026

The application process is fully online. Follow these steps carefully:

Step 1: Visit the official UPSC Online Recruitment Application portal at upsconline.nic.in/ora/.

Step 2: If you are a new user, create your account. This will generate your Universal Registration Number (URN). If you already have a URN, log in directly.

Selection Process

UPSC will first screen all applications. If the number of applicants is very high, they will shortlist candidates based on:

  • Desirable qualifications
  • Higher educational qualifications than the minimum
  • More experience than the minimum required
  • Performance in a Recruitment Test (if conducted)

Shortlisted candidates will be called for an Interview. You need to bring a printout of your online application and all original documents. You will also have to go through face authentication at the interview venue. The minimum interview marks needed are:

  • UR: 50 out of 100
  • OBC: 45 out of 100
  • SC/ST/PwBD: 40 out of 100

If a Recruitment Test is held, you must clear the minimum cutoff in both the test and the interview. The test centres usually include Ahmedabad, Bhopal, Chennai, Delhi, Guwahati, Jaipur, Jammu, Kochi, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, Nagpur, Port Blair, Ranchi, and Shillong.
