Introduction : NPS Calculator 2026
The NPS Calculator 2026 helps Central Government employees estimate their monthly and annual National Pension System (NPS) contributions based on Basic Pay and Dearness Allowance (DA). It calculates the employee contribution, Government contribution and an estimated NPS corpus based on the selected contribution period, existing corpus and expected investment return.
For Central Government employees covered under NPS, the standard contribution is 10% of Basic Pay plus DA from the employee and 14% from the Government. The contributions are made to the NPS Tier I account under the applicable NPS framework.
How the NPS Calculator Works
This NPS Calculator uses your Basic Pay and DA to calculate the salary amount on which the NPS contribution is based. You can enter the applicable employee contribution rate, Government contribution rate, contribution period, existing NPS corpus and an assumed annual return to estimate the future value of your NPS account.
Enter your current Basic Pay, select the applicable DA rate and review the default NPS contribution rates. The calculator then shows your monthly contribution, Government contribution, annual contribution and the total amount contributed over the selected period.
The calculator also provides a projected corpus using the contribution period and expected annual return entered by you. The projected corpus is only an estimate because NPS returns are market-linked and actual investment performance may be different.
How Is NPS Contribution Calculated for Central Government Employees?
For Central Government employees covered under NPS, contributions are calculated using Basic Pay plus Dearness Allowance (DA). The employee contributes 10% of this amount, while the Government contributes 14% under the standard Central Government NPS structure.
The basic calculation can be understood as follows:
NPS Salary Base = Basic Pay + DA
Employee NPS Contribution = NPS Salary Base × 10%
Government NPS Contribution = NPS Salary Base × 14%
For example, if Basic Pay is ₹44,900 and DA is 60%, the DA amount is ₹26,940 and the NPS salary base becomes ₹71,840. At the standard rates, the employee contribution is ₹7,184 per month and the Government contribution is ₹10,057.60, which is approximately ₹10,058 per month.
NPS Contribution Rate for Central Government Employees
Under the standard NPS contribution structure for Central Government employees, the employee contributes 10% of Basic Pay plus DA and the Government contributes 14% of Basic Pay plus DA to the NPS Tier I account.
These contributions are credited to the subscriber’s NPS account and invested according to the applicable NPS investment framework.
Employee NPS Contribution – 10%
The employee contribution under the standard Central Government NPS structure is 10% of Basic Pay plus Dearness Allowance. This contribution is made to the employee’s NPS Tier I account.
For example, if an employee has Basic Pay of ₹44,900 and DA of 60%, the NPS salary base is ₹71,840.
Employee contribution = ₹71,840 × 10% = ₹7,184 per month.
The actual contribution appearing in a salary record may depend on the applicable payroll and service rules.
Government NPS Contribution – 14%
The standard Central Government contribution under NPS is 14% of Basic Pay plus DA. This Government contribution is credited to the employee’s NPS account along with the employee’s contribution.
Using Basic Pay of ₹44,900 and DA of ₹26,940, the NPS salary base is ₹71,840.
Government contribution = ₹71,840 × 14% = ₹10,057.60, which is approximately ₹10,058 per month when rounded to the nearest rupee.
The Government contribution is a contribution to the NPS account and should not be treated as an additional amount deducted from the employee’s in-hand salary.
NPS Contribution on Basic Pay Plus DA
NPS contribution for Central Government employees is calculated using Basic Pay plus Dearness Allowance (DA). Therefore, an increase in Basic Pay or DA can increase the amount contributed to NPS.
For example:
Basic Pay: ₹44,900
DA Rate: 60%
DA Amount: ₹26,940
Basic Pay + DA: ₹71,840
The employee contribution at 10% is ₹7,184, while the Government contribution at 14% is approximately ₹10,058 per month.
How to Calculate NPS Corpus
NPS corpus is the accumulated value of contributions and investment returns over time. Unlike a simple contribution calculation, the projected corpus depends on the contribution amount, investment period, existing corpus and assumed rate of return.
This calculator uses the monthly contribution and the selected annual return assumption to estimate the future value of the NPS account. An existing NPS corpus can also be entered so that its estimated growth is included in the projection.
Because NPS investments are market-linked, the actual corpus can be higher or lower than the amount shown by the calculator. The projected value should therefore be treated as an estimate and not as a guaranteed maturity amount.
NPS Corpus Calculation Example
Suppose a Central Government employee has Basic Pay of ₹44,900 and DA of 60%. The NPS salary base is ₹71,840.
The monthly employee contribution at 10% is ₹7,184 and the Government contribution at 14% is approximately ₹10,058. The combined monthly contribution is therefore approximately ₹17,242.
Over 20 years, without considering investment returns, the combined contributions would be approximately ₹41.38 lakh.
If an investment return assumption is added, the projected corpus will be higher because the contributions and existing corpus, where applicable, can grow over time. The actual result will depend on the investment returns earned by the NPS account.
What Does the NPS Calculator Calculate?
The calculator provides several useful NPS figures based on the information entered by the user. These include the monthly employee contribution, monthly Government contribution and combined monthly contribution.
It also calculates annual contributions and the total employee and Government contributions over the selected contribution period. Where an expected return is provided, the calculator estimates the projected NPS corpus and separates the estimated investment growth from the amount contributed.
The calculator is intended to make NPS contribution calculations easier to understand without requiring manual calculations.
NPS Contribution vs In-Hand Salary
The employee’s NPS contribution is a contribution towards retirement savings and is generally considered while determining the deductions from salary. The Government’s NPS contribution is separate from the employee contribution and is credited to the NPS account according to the applicable rules.
For this reason, the Government contribution shown by this calculator should not be added to the employee’s monthly in-hand salary. The calculator is designed to show the contribution going towards NPS rather than calculate the employee’s final salary after every possible payroll deduction.

For Central Government employees covered under NPS, the standard contribution is 10% of Basic Pay plus DA from the employee and 14% from the Government. The contributions are made to the NPS Tier I account under the applicable NPS framework.
Is Government NPS Contribution Deducted From Salary?
No. The Government NPS contribution is a separate contribution made by the Government to the employee’s NPS account. It should not be treated as an additional deduction from the employee’s in-hand salary.
The employee and Government contributions are both credited to the NPS Tier I account under the applicable Central Government NPS framework.
NPS Calculator Assumptions and Limitations
The contribution portion of this calculator uses the standard Central Government NPS contribution structure of 10% employee contribution and 14% Government contribution on Basic Pay plus DA.
The projected corpus is an estimate based on the contribution amount, selected contribution period, existing corpus and expected annual return entered by the user. The calculator does not guarantee any particular investment return or final corpus.
Actual NPS balances can differ because of changes in Basic Pay and DA, investment performance, contribution timing, applicable investment choices, charges and other factors. The calculator also does not attempt to reproduce an individual subscriber’s official NPS statement.

NPS and Unified Pension Scheme (UPS)
The Unified Pension Scheme (UPS) was introduced by the Central Government with effect from 1 April 2025 as an option under the National Pension System (NPS) for eligible Central Government employees. UPS is subject to the eligibility conditions and rules applicable to the employee.
This calculator is specifically designed to calculate NPS contributions and an estimated NPS corpus. It does not calculate the assured payout or other benefits available under UPS.
Employees who are eligible for or have opted for UPS should refer to the applicable Government and PFRDA rules when evaluating their retirement benefits. The NPS calculation shown on this page should not be interpreted as a UPS benefit calculation.
