The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), through the ISRO Centralised Recruitment Board (ICRB), has released Advertisement No. ISRO:ICRB:03(EMC):2026 dated 27 August 2026 for recruitment to the post of Scientist/Engineer ‘SC’ in Electronics, Mechanical and Computer Science. The recruitment covers 175 vacancies in constituent ISRO Centres and the Physical Research Laboratory (PRL).

The posts in constituent ISRO Centres are Group ‘A’ Gazetted posts, while the Scientist/Engineer ‘SC’ posts in the autonomous body PRL are Group ‘A’ Non-Gazetted posts. All posts are in Level 10 of the Pay Matrix.

ISRO has notified 175 vacancies for Scientist/Engineer ‘SC’ in Electronics, Mechanical and Computer Science.

The Electronics post has the highest number of vacancies with 99 posts, followed by Mechanical with 52 posts and Computer Science with 21 posts. Three additional posts are available in PRL, one each in Electronics, Mechanical and Computer Science.

Degree Completion Requirement

The graduation degree must have been completed within the stipulated duration of the course prescribed by the university.

CGPA and Percentage Rules

Candidates should be particularly careful about the CGPA rules.

If the degree certificate or consolidated marksheet mentions both CGPA and percentage, at least one of the two must satisfy the DOS/ISRO eligibility requirement.

If only CGPA is mentioned, the CGPA itself must meet the prescribed eligibility requirement. Candidates cannot convert CGPA into percentage to satisfy the eligibility requirement, even if their university provides a conversion formula.

Dual/Integrated Degree Candidates

For Dual/Integrated Degree programmes:

• If separate CGPA/percentage is given for graduation and post-graduation, the graduation-level CGPA/percentage will be considered.
• If one common CGPA/percentage is provided for the entire programme, the final CGPA/percentage applicable to the entire course will be considered.
• If the degree certificate does not prescribe CGPA/percentage, the cumulative CGPA/percentage from the final/consolidated marksheet will be considered.
• These rules apply regardless of whether the university provides a formula for calculating CGPA/percentage.

NCS Registration

Age Limit

Written Test/CBT → Interview → Final Panel

Written Test/CBT

Candidates first appear for the Written Test/CBT. Based on performance in the written test, candidates are shortlisted for interview in a ratio of 1:5, subject to an aggregate minimum of 10 candidates. For reserved vacancies, additional/distinct candidates may be shortlisted in the applicable ratio.

Interview

The interview carries 100 marks and assesses candidates on the following parameters:

Academic Achievement Marks

The 10 marks for academic achievements are further evaluated on the basis of institute type, academic performance and institute-awarded rank.

Candidates can receive:

• 3 marks for graduating from IITs, IISc, IIST, NITs or institutes in the NIRF Top 20 category.
• 4 marks for CGPA ≥ 9 or percentage ≥ 85%.
• 2 marks for CGPA 7.5–9 or percentage 71%–85%.
• 3 marks for a rank of 1 to 3 awarded by the institute.

Other academic-performance categories receive no marks under the relevant component.

Qualifying Criteria

Final Selection Weightage

For preparation of the final panel:

• Written Test/CBT: 50% weightage
• Interview: 50% weightage

Thus, final selection is not based solely on written-test marks. The interview contributes an equal 50% weightage to the final panel.

Tie-Breaker

If there is a tie in final empanelment, the following criteria will be applied successively:

1. Marks obtained in Written Test/CBT
2. Marks obtained in the essential qualification
3. Date of Birth, with the older candidate placed higher

ISRO also reserves the right to change the qualifying criteria for interview and final selection due to administrative reasons, if required.

Written Exam Pattern

The Written Test/CBT consists of two parts: Part A and Part B.

Part A – Discipline-Specific

Part A is the technical section based on the candidate’s relevant discipline.

• Duration: 90 minutes
• Questions: 80 MCQs
• Maximum Marks: 80
• Correct answer: +1 mark
• Unattempted question: 0 marks
• Wrong answer: −1/3 mark

The questions are based on the relevant area/discipline.

Part B – Aptitude/Ability

Part B is an aptitude/ability section.

• Duration: 30 minutes
• Maximum questions: 15 MCQs
• Maximum marks: 20
• Negative marking: No

The questions may cover:

• Logical Reasoning
• Diagrammatic Reasoning
• Abstract Reasoning
• Deductive Reasoning

Therefore, candidates get a total examination time of 120 minutes and the Written Test/CBT carries 100 marks.

Application Fee and Refund

The application fee structure is somewhat unusual and should not be confused with the initial payment.

The advertisement states that the non-refundable application fee is ₹250 for all posts, while all candidates initially have to pay ₹750 as processing fee.

The payment is made online through the Bharatkosh e-Payment gateway using:

• UPI
• Domestic Debit Card

Cash, cheque, demand draft, money order, IPO or any other payment mode is not accepted.

Fee Refund

The processing fee will be refunded only to candidates who actually appear in the Written Test/CBT.

Women, SC/ST, PwBD and Ex-Servicemen candidates receive the processing fee back in full, while other candidates receive ₹500 after deduction of the ₹250 application fee.

Candidates must provide correct bank-account details, including bank name, branch, account-holder name, account number and IFSC, for receiving the refund. No refund will be considered if the candidate does not appear in the Written Test/CBT.

NOC for Government/PSU Employees

Candidates working under the Central Government, State Government, Public Sector Undertakings, Autonomous Bodies or similar organisations must apply with prior permission/intimation to the employer and produce the required No Objection Certificate (NOC) at the interview when applicable.

Failure to produce the original NOC at the interview can prevent the candidate from appearing in the interview, and TA will not be paid.

Job Location and Posting

Selected candidates can be posted at any Centre/Unit of the Department of Space or ISRO.
