The 11 vacancies are distributed among North Eastern Railway and BLW/Varanasi as follows:

No posts are reserved for any particular community.

A candidate can apply for both Level-2 and Level-1 posts. However, separate applications and separate examination fees are required for each level.

NER Scouts & Guides Recruitment Eligibility 2026-27

Candidates must meet the prescribed educational qualification as well as Scouts & Guides qualification requirements.

Educational Qualification

For Level-2 posts, the requirement of 50% marks in Class 12 is not insisted upon for SC, ST, PwBD and Ex-Servicemen candidates, or candidates possessing a qualification higher than 12th.

Scouts & Guides Qualification

The Scouts & Guides qualification is mandatory for both Level-2 and Level-1 posts.

• Hold President Scout/Guide/Rover/Ranger or Himalayan Wood Badge (HWB) in any section.
• Have been an active member of a Scouts organisation for the last 5 years.
• Possess the prescribed Certificate of Activeness.
• Have attended two events at National Level OR All Indian Railways’ Level.
• Have attended two events at State Level.

Candidates with provisional certificates of President Scout/Guide/Rover/Ranger or Himalayan Wood Badge may be allowed to participate provisionally, subject to the applicable Railway Board instructions.

NER Scouts & Guides Age Limit 2026-27

The age will be calculated as on 01 January 2027.

Written Examination

The written examination carries 60 marks:

The objective section contains 40 questions. There is a deduction of 1/3 mark for each incorrect objective answer.

There is no negative marking for the essay question.

Scouts & Guides Certificate Marks

Candidates can receive up to 40 marks for their Scouts & Guides certificates and participation/service.

The minimum qualifying marks in the written examination are 40%.
