Important Points:

  • Your educational certificate must be from a government-recognised board or institution.
  • For Technician-III posts under sports quota, the minimum qualification is 10th pass. However, if you do not have ITI in the relevant trade, your training period will be 3 years. If you have ITI, the training period is only 6 months.

Sports Achievement Norms

Your sports achievements must be from championships or events held on or after 01 April 2024. The concluding day of the championship will be considered as the valid date.

You must have achieved at least one of the following:

For Level 3 / Level 2 Posts

  • Represented India in any Category-B championship or event
  • Won at least 3rd position in any Category-C championship or event
  • Won at least 3rd position in Senior/Youth/Junior National Championships
  • Won at least 3rd position in National Games organised under Indian Olympic Association
  • Won at least 3rd position in All India Inter University Championships under Association of Indian Universities
  • Won 1st position in Federation Cup Championships (Senior Category)

For Level 1 Posts

You must have achieved at least one of the following:

  • Represented India in any Category-C championship or event
  • Won at least 3rd position in Federation Cup Championships (Senior Category)
  • Represented a state or equivalent unit (except marathon and cross-country) with at least 8th position in Senior National Championships

Special Sports Rules

  • Archery: Events under Archery Association of India are valid.
  • Athletics: Medal winners in National Inter State Senior Athletics Championship can also apply for Grade Pay Rs. 1900 posts.
  • Badminton, Table Tennis, Tennis: Current Annual All India Rankings are considered. For Level 3/2, singles ranking up to 20th and doubles up to 4th. For Level 1, singles up to 30th and doubles up to 6th.
  • Basketball: Only Basketball Federation of India events are valid.
  • Boxing: Only Boxing Federation of India events are valid. Youth category achievements after 25 September 2016 are considered in place of Junior category.
  • Cricket: Separate norms exist based on representation in Test, ODI, T20, Inter-State, and Inter-Zonal matches.
  • Golf: IGU ranking up to 60 for Level 3/2 and up to 100 for Level 1 with single handicap less than 10.
  • Power Lifting: Events under Indian Power Lifting Federation after 03 October 2017 are not valid, except those under Association of Indian Universities or International Federations.
  • Weightlifting: Both old and new weight categories are accepted as per the equivalence table given in the notification.

Salary and Pay Scale

Selected candidates under NFR Sports Quota Recruitment 2026 will receive salary as per the 7th Pay Commission. The pay level determines your starting salary and growth.

Selection Process

The selection for NFR Sports Quota is not just about your certificates. You have to prove your talent in person through trials and an interview.

Stage 1: Sports Trials (40 Marks)

A Trial Committee will watch your game skills, physical fitness, and coach observations during the trial. You can score a maximum of 40 marks.

  • Fit Candidate: 25 marks or above
  • Not Fit Candidate: Below 25 marks

Only FIT candidates will move to the next stage.

Stage 2: Interview and Assessment (60 Marks)

The Recruitment Committee will interview only the FIT candidates and award marks out of 60 based on:

  • Sports achievements: 50 marks
  • Educational qualification: 10 marks

Final Merit List

Your trial marks (40) and interview marks (60) will be added to make a total of 100 marks. The merit list is prepared based on this total score.

Refund Policy: Candidates who appear for the selection trials will get a partial refund of the application fee after deduction of banking charges. You must provide correct bank details in the online application form to receive the refund.

Fee Exemption Rules:

  • Minority Candidates: Muslims, Christians, Sikhs, Buddhists, and Parsis can claim fee exemption by uploading a self-declaration as per Annexure-A. They must also submit an affidavit on non-judicial stamp paper during document verification.
  • EBC Candidates: If your total family income is less than Rs. 50,000 per year, you can claim exemption by uploading an income certificate as per Annexure-B.

Medical Examination and Bond

Selected candidates must pass a medical examination as per railway norms for the post they are selected for. Also, all selected sportspersons must sign a Service Bond to serve the Indian Railways for at least 5 years. There is also a 2-year probation period for all appointees.
